4 NEW Wines from Veramonte Winery

Veramonte came to life in the late 1990s in Casablanca, a valley unheard of at that time within the wine industry. Led by grand visionary and pioneer of Chilean wine, Agustín Huneeus was the first to invest in the area and introduce the world to Veramonte and Casablanca. Today, Veramonte is a part of González Byass, a family company founded in 1835 that has maintained their values for five generations.

Vermont Cabernet Sauvignon
Colchagua Valley, Chile

Expressive, Intense, Powerful. Located in the renowned Colchagua Valley, the vineyards are situated among the rolling hills of Marchigüe. An intense, aromatic Cabernet Sauvignon with notes of ripe black fruit, black pepper and a touch of spice. A satiating long finish makes this wine perfect for pairing with a barbecue among friends or a traditional “Pino” empanada.

Veramonte Pinot Noir
Casablanca Valley, Chile

Silky, Fresh, Delicate. Born along the edge of our Casablanca vineyard’s native forest, 30 kilometers east of the Pacific Ocean. Cool morning fog, along with the soil’s particular characteristics, are the start of an elegant, smooth wine with raspberry and cherry notes. Its perfect balance between acidity and tannins make this Pinot Noir ideal for pairing with stuffed ravioli, tuna and other oily fish.

Expressive aromas of raspberries, red cherries and strawberry reflect the true characteristics of the coastal vineyards. A delicate wine with a fresh, silky mouthfeel. The seamless balance of acidity and tannins result in a vibrant and complex Pinot Noir.

Veramonte Sauvignon Blanc
Casablanca Valley, Chile

Vibrant, Intense, Expressive. Less than 30 kilometers east of the Pacific Ocean, these vineyards are influenced by cool morning fog and gentle sea breezes. A Sauvignon Blanc with citrus aromas such as lime and mandarin orange that mesh beautifully with floral notes. Smooth and fresh, this wine is ideal for pairing with a Caprese Salad or sea bass ceviche. Also a perfect summer aperitif among friends.

Veramonte Primus Blend
Colchagua Valley, Chile

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Syrah and Merlot. Primus The Blend has ripe red and black berry fruit flavors with exotic spice. A full-bodied wine with a lingering finish.

The grapes are hand-picked, double sorted, fermented and left on the skins after fermentation to extract deep color and rich flavors. The best lots of the vintage are selected, married to blend harmoniously and aged in French oak for a minimum of 12 months.

Trefethen Charddonay
Napa Valley, California

In 1979, Trefethen 1976 Chardonnay was named “Best Chardonnay in the World” at the Gault Millau World Wine Olympics in France, beginning our 30-year tradition of excellence with this most popular of white wines. Key to their success is their vineyard’s location in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, where well-drained, loamy soils and a marine-influenced climate yield Chardonnay grapes with rich, balanced flavors.

Trefethen Family Vineyards produces a diverse range of award-winning varietal, blended and reserve wines – all from our Napa Valley estate – exhibiting the classic hallmarks of fine wine quality: richness with elegance, concentration with finesse, complexity with harmony, and sophistication with approachability. Reflecting both the relatively cool climate of Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley estate vineyard and the Trefethen family’s preference for balanced wines, this classic style dovetails perfectly with the growing movement of connoisseurs in the United States away from wines of unbridled alcohol and ripeness toward wines of greater finesse and food-friendliness.

The nose on this beautiful Chardonnay opens with bursts of orange blossoms and hints of lemon cream pie. The palate is full yet bright, offering a pleasant viscosity and subtle notes of kiwi. The clean finish adds an exclamation point with elegance.

Every year’s vintages win so many awards. Visit Trefethen's website.

Quilt Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley, California

A new wine from Jo Wagner… “For Napa Valley Quilt, I source from a patchwork of prime Napa Valley vineyards to create a classic Cabernet Sauvignon made in the style my family has always loved.”
– Joe Wagner

Tasting notes: Deep, dark brick red to blood plum. A seamless blend of creme de cassis, hazelnut, cocoa, blackberry preserves, charry meat, and blackberry pie along with suggestions of dark licorice, stewed rhubarb, strawberry, spice, and vanillin. Rich and satisfying with chocolate brownie, yogurt, molasses, brown sugar and rhubarb notes presented in perfect balance with higher-toned fruit emphasis.

Critical Acclaim: WW90 Wilfred Wong of - "Nicely textured and smooth on the palate, the 2014 Quilt Cabernet is a solidly-built Napa Valley effort. The wine's ripe berry and toasty oak nuances make it an easy Cab to enjoy with grilled beef kebabs. (Tasted: April 3, 2017, San Francisco, CA)"

Domaine Pichot Vouvray
Loire Valley, France

Jean-Claude Pichot’s family is one of the oldest in Vouvray, with origins as viticulturists and restaurateurs dating back to 1739. The family cellars are located in the charming village of Vouvray, in caverns hewn from the rolling hills which were once quarried to provide stone to construct the grand châteaux of the Loire. In fact, the Pichot home is itself part house and part cavern, with a dramatic hearth carved from the rock. Jean-Claude was one of six sons, but the only one to continue the family tradition of vigneron. Domaine Le Peu de la Moriette was built from three main vineyards by Jean-Claude and his son, Christophe. The name is explained by Monsieur Pichot to originate from the old French, ‘Puits du petit Maure’, or ‘Well of the little moor’, dating back to antiquity when the Moors had settled in this region of France. ‘Coteau de la Biche’ is the Vouvray domaine founded by Pichot’s maternal great grandfather and now run by Christophe Pichot. The legend is that a doe once took refuge in the cellars of this domaine, hence the name. Domaine le Peu de la Moriette has expanded over the years from thirty to nearly fifty-two acres of hillside vineyard, cultivated without chemical pesticides. Planted entirely with Chenin Blanc, the vines vary in age from twenty to fifty-five years.

A perfumed nose of ripe pineapple. The palate is juicy with baked apple, some cinnamon and canning spices - mainly cloves - paired with white licorice, Pernod, and a hint of date, too. Succulent and easy to drink with refreshing juicy acidity.

Daniel Chotard Sancerre Rose
Loire Valley, France

Daniel Chotard and his wife, Brigitte, live just outside Sancerre in the village of Reigny. The Chotard family has been making wine for well over two hundred years, though Daniel was initially reluctant to accept the family vocation and started as a teacher. Daniel is a bit of a Renaissance man. His enthusiasm and passion for learning extends beyond wine and into music; he is a gifted guitarist and accordion player. A visit to his website illustrates the symmetry between his music and his wines.

The terroir of Sancerre is widely regarded as producing one of the greatest expressions of the Sauvignon Blanc grape. Sancerre was once more celebrated for its red wine, a Parisian bistro favorite. The Chotards grow Pinot Noir as well, used to make both red wine and rosé. Daniel and his son Simon farm the slopes of the village Crezancy-en-Sancerre, a terroir of clay and the famous Kimmeridgian limestone. The hilltop town of Sancerre is surrounded by a commune of villages that collectively make up its eponymous appellation, and each village is blessed with varieties of a distinct limestone that imbues a lengthy mineral component to its wines. Daniel and his son Simon farm the slopes of the village Crezancy-en-Sancerre, where flint meets clay and the famous Kimmeridgian limestone. He practices sustainable farming, and uses organic composts to treat the vines. Typically, he harvests his grapes later than his neighbors which results in less of the acidity that is so typical of the appellation. Aging the wine on its lees further rounds the mid-palate. Like his jazz, Daniel’s wines are luscious and complex with deep notes and long, satisfying finales.

When Daniel uses Pinot Noir to make rose, it captures some of the fresh grassiness and mineral of his Sancerre blanc. Salmon pink in colour - nose redolent of red berries - the palate shows a great deal of freshness and clean, long lasting fruit - a soft, lively and cheerful wine. Another wonderful wine imported by Kermit Lynch.

Independence Brewing out of Austin, TX

Starting a brewery, the idea sounded crazy to their family and friends back in 2004, but Amy and Rob Cartwright knew what they were up against. They knew the “big guys” brew millions of barrels a year, on automated equipment worth millions of dollars, with super-sized advertising budgets. But Amy and Rob Cartwright had to brew beer, their own beer. And they had to share it with Texas, and now Arkansas.

Lost Forty Fall Hunter Oktoberfest

The Hunter Oktoberfest is deep coppery gold in color with spicy noble hop aromas and flavors. The mild, warm spice notes of The Hunter are derived from the traditional German style noble hops Hallertau Mittlelfruh used in the brew. The addition of Crystal hops lends a subtle hint of citrus for a more early-fall feel. It’s medium body, full carbonation and moderate alcohol is not overpowering, making this an easy drinking beer that will pair nicely with a plate of sausage and sauerkraut. 6.1% ABV

Game of Thrones Seven Kingdoms
Hoppy Wheat Ale
Ommegang Brewery

Seven Hells! Seven Kingdoms Hoppy Wheat Ale, the newest beer in the Game of Thrones series from HBO Global Licensing and Brewery Ommegang, just arrived, ahead of the premiere of season six of HBO’s critically-acclaimed and Emmy award-winning show.

Seven Kingdoms is a marriage of a traditional Belgian-style wheat and a hop-forward American ale – but unlike so many of the marriages on the show, the resulting hoppy wheat is pleasant, playful and inspired. Seven Kingdoms harmoniously weds citrusy and herbal American hops, with wheaty maltiness and moderate bitterness.

Seven Kingdoms pours a hazy pale yellow with a thick cap of pure white foam. Aromas of citrus and fruit are underpinned with notes of banana, ripe fruit, and spicy phenols from the yeast. The hop flavor is full and round with notes of tart orange and lemon, complemented by substantial wheat maltiness. A mildly bitter finish gives way to slight lingering hop note.s 6.9% ABV

Game of Thrones Valar Dohaeris

After an exciting season that saw the Starks reclaim the North and Cersei take the Iron Throne as the first queen of Westeros, Brewery Ommegang and HBO Global Licensing are introducing a new beer and bringing back a previous brew to steady the nerves of fans as they anxiously endure the show’s off-season break. Valar Dohaeris Tripel Ale is the latest beer in the series and pays homage to Arya’s season-long struggles within and around the House of Black and White.

Valar Dohaeris Tripel Ale is, much like a “faceless man,” not what it first appears to be; it shares the complexity of its sister-brew, Valar Morghulis Dubbel, and a strength masked and belied by its lighter color.

Valar Dohaeris pours a beautiful copper-tinted hue with a full, fluffy white head. Sweet grain and honey are prevalent in the aroma. The flavor opens with a bright sweetness thanks to the Belgian candi sugar used in brewing. The finish is moderately dry and effervescent with just a hint of Belgian yeast character. 9% ABV

Ocean Organic Vodka

Handcrafted on the beautiful island of Maui, OCEAN Organic Vodka is the only vodka in the world made with deep ocean mineral water. The high mineral content of the water imparts a unique character to this vodka and adds great depth of flavor to the traditional vodka cocktail.

All 80 proof vodkas are comprised of 60% water, so the quality of the water source dramatically influences the quality of the vodka. Hawaii deep ocean mineral water originated as Greenland glacier melt over 2,000 years ago, traveling gradually around the globe through deep ocean currents until arriving in Hawaii.

The water is then sourced from 3,000 feet below the Kona Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, where it is ice-cold, deeply pure, and full of naturally occurring minerals. Once the water is brought to the surface on the Kona coast, it is organically purified and desalinated through a proprietary, natural filtration process that removes sodium while retaining rich minerals such as potassium, calcium and magnesium.
